As the best hospice pharmacy in Glendale, Select Pharmacy provides hospices with personalized comfort kits designed to support terminally-ill patients.
What is a Hospice Comfort Kit?
The hospice comfort kit is also referred to as an emergency kit, e-kit, or hospice kit. The kit typically includes a prescribed set of medications that are kept in a patient’s home in case of a medical emergency. Having a hospice kit in the home will help the hospice team treat any unexpected or severe symptoms that may arise while the patient is at home.
Compazine (Prochlorperazine) – to treat nausea and vomiting
Dulcolax suppositories (Bisacodyl) – to treat constipation
Senna – to treat constipation
Fleet enema – to treat constipation if other treatments are ineffective
Depending on the patient’s condition, a hospice kit may include other medications. For example, a patient at risk for seizures may have valium suppositories in their comfort kit.
How Does a Patient Obtain a Hospice Comfort Kit?
The hospice provider will collaborate with a hospice pharmacy in creating a personalized comfort kit that includes the right medications and supplies. Once the medications have been properly designed and formulated, the hospice pharmacy will deliver the comfort kit to the patient’s home.
